Born Jerry Angelo Brooks on December 16, 1965, in Plymouth, North Carolina, he grew up in Mount Vernon, New York. In September 1999, Smoove made the move to Los Angeles, which proved to be a pivotal step in his career. He quickly gained attention with a recurring role on MTV’s The Lyricist Lounge Show, demonstrating his knack for sketch comedy. His impressive comedic talents also led to featured guest spots on The Chris Rock Show and on Comedy Central’s Premium Blend. Smoove's breakout role came with HBO’s hit series "Curb Your Enthusiasm," where he has become renowned for his portrayal of Leon Black. His character’s hilarious wit and chemistry with Larry David have made Leon a fan favorite and solidified Smoove's place as a top comedic actor. In June 2000, he took on his first significant film role by both narrating and starring in the now cult classic "Pootie Tang," alongside Chris Rock.
