* when comedian performs in my city.
Doug Benson began his journey into the world of comedy at the age of 22 in San Francisco, encouraged by friends to try his hand at stand-up. His comedic talent was soon evident, and he teamed up with fellow comics Arj Barker and Tony Camin to co-create "The Marijuana-Logues," a light-hearted parody of Eve Ensler's "Vagina Monologues," but focused on cannabis culture. This innovative show was a hit, resonating with audiences and running for a successful year Off-Broadway in New York. It was later adapted into both a CD and a book, expanding its reach and popularity. Intriguingly, despite his strong association with marijuana, Benson only tried the substance when he was 27 years old. His humorous exploration of marijuana culture and advocacy did not go unnoticed, and in 2006, he was named "Stoner of the Year" by High Times magazine. Living in California, where medical marijuana is legal, Benson holds a card that permits him to use the drug for medicinal purposes. Benson took his interest in cannabis a step further with the creation of the documentary "Super High Me." This unique project follows him through a 60-day experiment: 30 days of complete marijuana abstinence followed by 30 days of daily use, documenting the effects on his body and mind. In addition to his work in film and theater, Benson became a familiar face on television, regularly appearing on VH-1's "Best Week Ever." His television career took a notable turn when he auditioned for season five of "Last Comic Standing." Despite being initially told by comic and talent scout Ant in Los Angeles that his performance lacked energy, Benson persisted. He brought a new level of sarcastic vibrancy to the very same set at a casting call in Minneapolis, which earned him a spot on the show. Continuing to advance in the competition, Benson demonstrated his resilience and commitment to his craft. Doug Benson's career is marked by a distinctive blend of humor and advocacy, with his work on stage, screen, and television making a memorable impact. He continues to be a prominent figure in the comedy scene, celebrated for his unique perspective and engaging comedic style.
