With a dynamic energy and an almost tangible onstage presence, Dean Edwards remains one of the most in-demand performers in the comedy world today. Armed with a razor-sharp wit, an arsenal of characters, and spot-on impressions, Dean Edwards has captured the hearts of audiences globally and become a favorite among comedy fans.
Dean's popularity skyrocketed during his time as one of the stars of MTV2’s hit show, "GUY CODE," which became the network’s most successful show in its history. His comedic talents also led him to host TV One’s clip show "VIDIOTS" and serve as a correspondent on BET’s program "DON’T SLEEP," hosted by TJ Holmes.
A talented actor and comedian, Dean Edwards first made a significant mark in comedy with his two-season stint as a cast member on "SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE." There, his memorable impressions of Don Cheadle, Michael Jackson, and Denzel Washington, alongside original characters like "Man in Elevator" and "Cop #2," showcased his creative range and commitment to his craft.
Born in the Bronx and raised throughout New York, Dean's diverse experiences enabled him to connect with people from all walks of life. He balanced his college education with a six-year term in the U.S. Army Reserves, where his comedic flair was both his passion and his means of paying the price, often in the form of push-ups for his impressions of fellow soldiers and their drill sergeant. Ultimately, after participating in a college talent show, Dean chose to pursue comedy full-time.
Armed with a degree in communications, he quickly became an in-demand comic, gaining recognition with his first big break on Russell Simmons' "DEF COMEDY JAM." Dean managed to break the traditional mold with his mainstream appeal, finding his way onto "SHOWTIME AT THE APOLLO" a few years later. He followed these TV appearances with roles in television commercials and worked alongside Spike Lee in the hit film “THE ORIGINAL KINGS OF COMEDY.”
Dean Edwards has since earned a reputation as a headlining favorite at comedy clubs and colleges across the country. His international acclaim is equally impressive, having performed at Montreal's Just For Laughs Comedy Festival twice, as well as the Jozi, Cape Town, and Durban Comedy Festivals in South Africa, and touring the Middle East, performing in front of more than 10,000 comedy fans from Cairo to Kuwait.
His television appearances include "The Late Show with Craig Ferguson" and "Last Call with Carson Daly," and he often appears on Byron Allen’s "Comic Unleashed" and VH1 highlight shows. Dean was also chosen by director Malcolm Lee to complete Bernie Mac’s voice work for "Soul Men" after the beloved comedian’s untimely death.
Dean extended his vocal talents to Dreamworks’ SHREK THE MUSICAL on Broadway, workshopping and creating the character of Donkey. His impressive vocal skills led Jeffrey Katzenberg to invite him to reprise the role of Donkey for Dreamworks’ Halloween classic "SCARED SHREKLESS."
His film credits include roles in "SPIDERMAN 3," "TONY -N- TINA’S WEDDING," and "UNIVERSAL REMOTE." His first comedy CD, "REAL TALK WITH FAKE PEOPLE, Volume 1," debuted at the top of iTunes' comedy charts in 2009, solidifying his place in the world of comedy.
As Dean Edwards continues to rise in the entertainment industry, he has set his sights on recording a one-hour comedy special in the near future, thereby continuing to share his comedic genius with audiences everywhere.
