David Cross, originally from Atlanta, Georgia, emerged as a prominent figure in comedy after making his way to Boston to study film at Emerson College. However, his time in academia was short-lived, as he quickly decided to drop out and pursue stand-up comedy full time. This decision marked the beginning of a prolific career that would see him become a significant presence in both television and film.
Cross relocated to Los Angeles, where he began writing for The Ben Stiller Show. It was here that he shared a posthumous Emmy with the show's other writers, an accolade awarded after the show's cancellation. Embracing the world of sketch comedy, David co-created the groundbreaking HBO series Mr. Show with Bob Odenkirk. The show ran for four successful years and was celebrated with multiple Emmy nominations, establishing Cross as a trailblazer in the comedy genre.
David's stand-up career is equally notable, having released two comedy albums on the Subpop label: "Shut Up You Fucking Baby" and "It’s Not Funny". "Shut Up You Fucking Baby" was nominated for a Grammy Award, and both albums have received critical acclaim and continue to sell well.
In addition to his work in television and stand-up, Cross has appeared in a variety of films, showcasing his versatility as an actor. His film credits include roles in "Men in Black" (both the original and its sequel), "Waiting for Guffman", "Scary Movie 2", "Ghost World", and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind". More recent appearances include "She’s The Man" for DreamWorks, "School for Scoundrels" for The Weinstein Company, and providing a voice in "Curious George" for Universal. His future projects include involvement in Todd Haynes’ "I’m Not There", a creative exploration of the life of Bob Dylan, and Zack Penn’s poker comedy, "The Grand".
On the small screen, David Cross is perhaps best known for his role as Tobias Fünke in the Emmy Award-winning Fox Network comedy "Arrested Development". His television work extends to writing, producing, and starring in the Comedy Central animated series "Freak Show", which he co-created with Jon Benjamin.
David Cross continues to influence the comedy landscape with his distinct style and multifaceted contributions to the entertainment industry.
