Daniel Tosh was born in Germany and raised in Titusville, Florida, alongside his brother and two sisters. His father was a preacher, and his mother worked as a nurse. Tosh discovered his passion for stand-up comedy during his time at the University of Central Florida. After a late-night conversation with a friend, he began to see stand-up as an escape from the conventional nine-to-five life he wanted to avoid.
Tosh's first stand-up performance took place at a music open mic, where his act was humorously accompanied by the unplanned addition of rim shots from a drummer. He quickly became a regular at various open mics in Orlando, especially at Bonkers, a renowned comedy club. Tosh graduated in 1996 with a degree in marketing, which he humorously admitted choosing because he considered it the "easiest" option.
Determined to pursue comedy full-time, Tosh caught the attention of the former manager of Bill Hicks, marking a significant step in his career. He made a breakthrough in 1998 when he was invited to perform at the New Faces show during the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal. At 23, Tosh decided to move to Los Angeles, a decision influenced by his love for surfing. He currently resides in Hermosa Beach and continues to surf regularly.
Tosh made his national television debut in 2001 on CBS' Late Show with David Letterman. Following this, he appeared on all major late-night talk shows, including The Tonight Show, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and The Late Late Show. His aspirations of hosting his own talk show have also become known.
In 2005, Tosh released his first comedy CD, "True Stories That I Made Up." Two years later, in June 2007, his first hour-long special, "Daniel Tosh: Completely Serious," premiered on Comedy Central. Known for frequently updating his material, Tosh believes in keeping his act fresh and engaging, both for himself and his audience. He often tests new material at the Comedy & Magic Club in Hermosa Beach, where he is a regular performer.
When not on tour, Daniel Tosh can be found in Los Angeles, continually pushing the boundaries of his comedic craft.
