Craig Robinson, born and raised in Chicago, is an American actor, stand-up comedian, and singer. He is arguably best known for his role as the acerbic Dunder-Mifflin employee Darryl Philbin on NBC’s Emmy-winning “The Office.” Beyond television, Robinson has made a significant mark in films, starring in popular comedies such as "Knocked Up," "Pineapple Express," the "Hot Tub Time Machine" series, and "This is the End." Before deciding to pursue his passion for comedy full-time, Robinson worked as a K-8 teacher in the Chicago Public School System. His academic journey includes an undergraduate degree from Illinois State University and a Master of Education from St. Xavier University. It was during his time studying education in Chicago that Robinson discovered his love for acting and comedy, sparked by joining the famed Second City Theatre. Robinson made his first significant impression in the comedy scene at the 1998 Montreal “Just For Laughs” Festival. That same year, he won accolades such as the Oakland Comedy Festival Awards and the Miller Genuine Draft 1996 Comedy Search. His unique comedic style soon led to appearances on “The Jimmy Kimmel Show” and “Real Time with Bill Maher.” Now a headliner at venues and festivals across the country, Robinson performs both solo acts and full-band sets with his group, “The Nasty Delicious.” His performances skillfully blend lyrical comedy with his talent for playing the piano. This summer, he will star in the NBC sitcom “Mr. Robinson,” a series loosely based on his life before achieving Hollywood success, focusing on his time as a K-8 music teacher in Chicago while performing with his band at night.
